The number of scholarships are subject to funding available in the recruitment year.

Dean's Master's Scholarship - Up to 6 awards of £10,000 towards tuition fees for Master’s programmes across the Faculty of Medicine for Home and Overseas applicants.

Dr Jean Alero Thomas Scholarship - Up to 7 awards of partial or full tuition fees for lab-based MSc or MRes programmes (at Home fee rate only) to Home and Overseas applicants.

Of the two types of Scholarship available:

Dean's Master's Scholarships - £10,000 towards tuition fees for any Faculty of Medicine Master’s programme that the successful applicant has applied to.

Dr Jean Alero Thomas Scholarships - Covers partial or full tuition fee (at the Home fee rate) for any lab-based MSc or MRes Faculty of Medicine Master’s programme that the successful applicant has applied to. Both Home and Overseas students are eligible for this scholarship, however, as the scholarship award will not cover more than the Home-rate tuition fee, this means only a proportion of Overseas awardee's tuition fee would be covered.

You will need to apply for a Faculty of Medicine Master’s programme at Imperial College London and then complete the online scholarship application form. All applications will be read and assessed by a selection panel of experienced academics. Scholarships will then be allocated and offers made will be dependent on candidates receiving an offer of a place on a Master’s programme in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College to start in the following October.

Yes. The application form allows you to specify if your degree has been awarded or if your grade is predicted. 

Candidates are expected to be able to provide evidence of outstanding academic ability. This will usually mean being among the highest achievers in their undergraduate cohort, and in receipt of, or due to receive a first class UK honours degree or equivalent. An applicant who does not meet this requirement (e.g. holds a second class undergraduate degree, is a health professional who did not undertake a degree course, or is from a non-traditional background) will be considered if they are able to demonstrate that they have outstanding academic potential and substantial experience relevant to their chosen subject area. 

Applicants who already hold postgraduate degrees will be considered, primarily if their chosen subject is sufficiently different from their existing degree. Please speak to the programme director or administrator of your chosen programme to discuss before applying.

No. However, you must apply for a place on a programme starting the following October before applying for the scholarship. You can find more information on the How to apply page.

Yes. However, you must show a clear commitment to continuing the course to Master's level. 

No. The Faculty of Medicine Master's Scholarships are only available to students starting a new Master's programme in the upcoming academic year of study, in this case, starting October 2025. Unfortunately, we cannot part-fund programmes already in progress.

Imperial policy dictates that students can only hold multiple awards if one is for fees and the other is for a stipend. As the Faculty of Medicine Master's Scholarships provide an award for fees, you would be permitted to also hold an award for a stipend.

Yes. You are welcome to apply for other types of funding from Imperial while applying for a Faculty of Medicine Master's Scholarship. However, these scholarships cannot be combined with any other scholarship that covers fees. For further information on this, please see the question above. 

No. Other scholarship and bursary schemes run by Imperial College London have different application procedures. Please consult the pages of the different schemes for guidance. 

No. Unfortunately, we do not have the administrative resources to accept transcripts. While we understand that entering details of your undergraduate degree may be time-consuming, it is a vital part of giving the selection panel the information that they need to make an informed decision about your application.

No. Where needed, we will use the references which are sent to the Faculty as as part of your programme application.
