The DNA& podcast is a fun and quirky show about DNA in healthcare. Now renewed for Season Two!

It’s been a busy year for DNA&! Co-hosts Hannah and Angelos have continued to break down the complex world of genomic healthcare into streamlined podcast episodes, maintaining their dedication to narrating each topic with the best anecdotes and metaphors (that they can think of).

There are now FIVE episodes available to stream, featuring fantastic guests and collaborators including Professor Miriam Moffatt and PhD students Theo Lam and Leo Unruh, from Imperial’s Microbiome Network (episode “DNA& bugs”), Genomics England’s Dr Katrina Stone (episode “DNA& Newborn Babies”) and Clinical Pharmacology Registrar and PhD candidate, Dr Emma Magavern (“DNA& drugs”). Bridging the domain of science communicators, the latest episode features Michael Pointer, host of the Heredity podcast and PhD candidate in evolutionary ecology at the University of East Anglia, who joins Hannah and Angelos to answer DNA-related questions from guests.

The DNA& team are delighted to announce that the planning for Season Two is now underway, thanks to a Public Engagement Grant awarded by the Society for Endocrinology, who join The Genetics Society in supporting DNA&. As part of this award, listeners can now find out more at our new website https://dnaand.co.uk, or contact us at info@dnaand.co.uk, hannah@dnaand.co.uk or angelos@dnaand.co.uk

Listen to the latest episode!

Hannah & Angelos hope to continue their mission to engage non-experts in a discussion of genomic healthcare with the final three episodes of Season One, “DNA& Covid-19”, “DNA& fertility”, and “DNA& gene therapy”. However, Season Two is still looking for collaborators! Please reach out if you are looking for an opportunity to communicate your research.

About the hosts

Hannah is a computational postdoc at Imperial College London. She ventures into the lab on occasion when her (brave) colleagues invite her to peer into a microscope. The rest of the time, she can be found talking to her computer in R/Python trying to interpret the mechanisms of disease risk variants. She is delighted to have a platform on which to talk about genetics, which she can do all day. Find her musing on Twitter @Hammaude or sharing stories on Instagram/TikTok @dr.hammaude.

Angelos is a 2nd year PhD student in bioinformatics at Imperial College London and his work focuses on the application of machine learning models in understanding and predicting cardiometabolic disease. He believes that scientific research should always be accessible to non-scientists, and hopes that DNA& along with other science communication podcasts will set a platform for open discussions, ultimately making scientific research easier to understand and appreciate. Outside science, Angelos also enjoys photography, capturing moments with his film camera and uploading to Instagram under the alias @exo.lampsis.
