Konstantinos Steiakakis
My name is Konstantinos Steiakakis and I am from Greece. I am a Chemical Engineer, graduating from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). During my undergraduate studies I came in contact with numerous branches of Chemical Engineering, but I was struck by the possibility of predicting and manipulating the macroscopic properties of matter from microscopic observations. Thus, as a senior undergraduate student in the preparation of my diploma thesis, I chose to be in the field of computational materials science. After my graduation, I volunteered my time to work as an assistant researcher at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, where I continued my research work in the field and at the same time I was part of a research team in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, expanding my horizons by collaborating with other scientists from different fields. That is why I chose to join the IMSE postgraduate program hoping to acquire new knowledge on molecular science and engineering and gain the necessary experience for a successful career as a researcher.
In my free time I play chess and read history. If I have the pleasure of having enough time on my hands, I like travelling and experiencing new countries, cultures and cuisines. However, even small day trips to the surrounding areas can be just as interesting to me, providing that there are cultural and historical sites to visit.
