2016

October: Ravi Shankar is joining the group to start his PhD - Welcome! This is the launch of the Barrer Centre

July: Dr Kostas Christoforidis joins our group to work on the development of bifunctional materials for combined CO2 capture and conversion - Welcome! Angus presents his work at the Faraday Discussion on CCS in Sheffield. His poster is highly commanded. 

June: Angus receives an RSC bursary for attending the Faraday Discussion on CCS in Sheffield. Christos Constantinou and Joseph Chimento are joining our group for the summer as UROP students. Welcome!

May:  Ian Emerson is joining our group for the summer as a UROP student. Welcome!

March: Our paper "Carbon Nitride Nanosheet/Metal-Organic Framework Nanocomposites with Synergistic Photocatalytic Activities" has been accepted for publication in Catalysis Science and TechnologyCamille receives an EPSRC First GrantAngus, Arwyn, Elton, Ryan and Sofia are presenting their work at ChemEngDay UK in Bath.

February: Our paper "Hierarchically porous carbon foams from pickering high internal phase emulsions" has been accepted for publication in Carbon. Our paper "One-setp synthesis of MOF-polymer composites" has been published in RSC Advances.

2015

November: Sofia and Ethan are presenting their work at the AIChE meeting in Salt Lake City. Dr Petit is giving a talk "Little solutions to big problems" and receives the IChemE Warner medal.

October: Arwyn and Ryan join our group to start a project with BP as part of BP-ICAM. Welcome! Our paper "Towards the use of metal–organic frameworks for water reuse" is published in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A. Sofia wins the 1st Prize for her poster on her 2D nanomaterials work at the BP-ICAM annual conference. Well done!

September: Our paper "Recent advances in anhydrous solvents for CO2 capture: ionic liquids, switchable solvents, and nanoparticle organic hybrid materials" is published in the journal Frontiers for Energy Research. Jindui is leaving our group to start his Marie Curie Fellowship.

June/July: Jack, Ruby and Souhila start their UROP projects in our group. They have all received bursdaries for the summer (BP award, EPSRC award and Faculty of Engineering award). Congrats and welcome!

May: It is Ethan's, Hugo's and John's MSc graduation. Hugo won the prize for best research project.

April: Dr Petit is invited to give a talk at the University of Newcastle. 

March: Dr. Petit receives the IChemE Warner Medal. Other members of the Department of Chemical Engineering also won Medals. See more information at: Imperial News and here. A PhD position is available (start date: October 2015). More information can be found here (see iCASE advert).

Feburary: Dr Petit is invited to give a talk at UCL.

January: Dr. Jindui Hong joins our group. Welcome! Dr. Hong performed his PhD studies at NTU.

2014

November: Our paper "Thermal Stability, Swelling Behaviors and CO2 Absorption Properties of Nanoscale Ionic Materials (NIMs)" is published in RSC Advances. Dr. Petit gives a talk and is invited to chair a session at the AIChE Annual Meeting in Atlanta. Nick gave a poster presentation at the UK Energy Storage conference 2014. October: Angus, Elton, Ethan, Nick and Sofia are starting their PhD. Welcome everyone! Dr Petit gives a talk at Oxford University.

September: Our paper "Engineering the surface of a new class of adsorbents: Metal-Organic Framework/Graphite Oxide composites" is published in the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science.

July: Dr. Petit and some of her colleagues from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College will partcipate in the London Duathlon taking place on September 14th (in teams!) in order to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. You can support this initiative

June: Charlotte, Jack and Sarah join the group to conduct their UROP projects. Welcome all!

May: Jack receives the BP UROP award and Charlotte receives the Faculty of Engineering UROP award. Congratulations!

April: Dr. Petit is invited to chair a panel and give a talk at the NSF-sponsored Research Coordination Network in Carbon Capture, Storage and Utilization. Dr. Petit is invited to serve as the Associate Editor of Frontiers in Carbon Capture, Storage and Utilization (Frontiers profileCarbon Capture, Storage and Utilization).

March: Dr. Petit is invited to give a talk at the ACS Spring Meeting in Dallas. Our paper on "Removing Oil Droplets from Water using a Copper-based Metal Organic Frameworks" is published in Chemical Engineering Journal.

January: Our paper on the "Effect of Canopy Structures and their Steric Interactions on CO2 Sorption Behavior of Liquid-like Nanoparticle Organic Hybrid Materials" is published in RSC Advances.

2013

November: Dr. Petit gives a talk and is invited to chair a session at the AIChE Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

July: Our paper on the "Design and characterization of liquid-like POSS-based hybrid nanomaterials synthesized via ionic bonding and their interactions with CO2" is published in Langmuir.
