Dr Joana Portugal Pereira
I am a senior scientist of the IPCC Working Group III on Mitigation. I research about low carbon policies and energy scenarios to help countries reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is supporting policy makers and scientists to design policy recommendations about climate policy. I enjoy very much working at CEP and its interdisciplinary and cross-cultural environment.
I am an enthusiastic about outdoor activities, mainly rock-climbing and cycling. I have participated in a few expeditions in South America and Southeast Asia. The best part of it was being disconnected from the online World. I enjoy sunny and hot days by the seaside. When the temperature goes below 20C, I feel cold (yes, I know I may have chosen the wrong city!).
I am proud of being part of the volunteering team that assists survivors of the Japan’s Great Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. We helped farmers and fishermen to recover their houses and belongings in the worst-hit area of Ishinomaki city. I will never forget how inspiring their smiles were. Although they have lost almost everything they had in life, survivors were remarkable resilience and strong.
