The M1R research project is a presentation poster project for first year students in the Department of Maths. It is their first research experience and gives the students an opportunity to practise their mathematical presentation skills and explain their work to members of the Department.

In previous years students prepared a presentation poster which was displayed at a two-hour poster session, where they discussed their work with their examiners, other academic staff and fellow students.

This year, due to the College closure, students are using Panopto to record their poster presentations. Each poster and presentation will be marked online by the examiners. Workshops on the project work are run through Microsoft Teams, with Mentimeter and Blackboard discussion boards used for asking questions.

Dr Charlotte Kestner, a Senior Teaching Fellow in Maths, is leading the project module; Ann Brew, the departmental librarian for Maths, ran a live online Q&A in Teams about research skills; and departmental GTAs provide weekly live LaTeX sessions in Teams in a dedicated LaTeX channel.
