Home matches at Harlington Sports Ground - Rugby, Hockey and Lacrosse

The first game of the day was Imperial Hockey Men’s 1st v LSE 1st, when we arrived the game was in full swing with the teams level at 3-3, with the hatrick coming from Tom Bence.  It was a close battle and Imperial took the lead after a swift break in mid-field leading to Bence’s 4th goal. It was looking good but with 3 minutes to go IC couldn’t clear their lines and conceded a 4th LSE goal agonising close to the end.  Team Captain Anthony Vaquero commented, “A frustrating end to the game, we played OK especially going forward, we just need to learn from our mistakes today and put it into place in next week’s Cup tie with UCL 2nd

Ladies LacrosseOn a windswept south side, Ladies Lacrosse 2nd were taking on an impressive Kingston side, despite some good work and individual goals from Anna Watt and 3 from Captain Genevieve Pugh, Kingston were too strong resulting in an 18-4 defeat for Imperial.  The girls were in good spirits, with constant smiles on their faces and celebrating each of their goals with a rendition of Gangnam Style (with an IC twist).

IC Rugby Men’s 1st were also in action playing Kent 1st in the first round of the BUCS Trophy.  Expectations of a first win this season preceded the game and the team did not disappoint, tries came from Syarif Hertog, Robbie Cowan, two each from Oli Benton and Nathan Fitzpatrick and 1 penalty try after a high tackle on Jack Judd as he went over the line.  George Lane also had a great day scoring 3 conversions helping the team cruise to a 41-22 win and booking their place in the last 32 of the trophy versus Bristol. A hobbling 1st team captain Jack Flanagan said “good result today and the performance wasn’t too bad either. It was important to pick up a win after a frustrating start to our league campaign. I think we will kick on now”.

We ended the day at the Hockey Astro, where Imperial Women’s 2nd were playing Royal Holloway 2nd.  The girls competed well against an on form Royal Holloway side, but eventually lost the game 4 goals to 1, with Imperial’s goal coming from Lauren Ratcliffe.
