Guidence for use of cloud based data storage
There has been some discussion around using DropBox for file storage. DropBox offers a great service, but some staff were unclear whether it can be used for sensitive data.
The College policy on sensitive data (//www3.imperial.ac.uk/secretariat/collegegovernance/provisions/policies/infosystems/codes/cop17 requires sensitive data in the cloud to be encrypted, unfortunately the way DropBox encrypts data is inadequate.
Some safe alternatives to DropBox suitable for sensitive data are:
Mobile Echo //www2.imperial.ac.uk/blog/ictfaq/category/mobile-devices/ (allows mobile access to your H: drive)
Wuala www.wuala.com (a cloud service for storing files with adequate encryption)
