Placement & Internship Officer

The Careers Advisory Service Placement & Internship Unit will have been up and running for a year in January 2013. On JobsLive you can see that we are currently advertising 378 placements & internships including 110 summer internships. This term various organisations have posted a total of 531 internships and placements. The most popular internships by number of views this term have been ‘Frontier Conservation Internships’, ‘L’Oreal International Research & Innovation summer internships’ and Investment Banking summer internships at boutique bank Gleacher Shacklock. The opportunities posted are located all over the world from London, around the UK, North America and South East Asia.

As well as sourcing new vacancies the Placement & Internship Officers have also been busy making visits to departments attending 24 lectures informing students of internship opportunities and providing tips on how to find both advertised and hidden vacancies. We have also seen 147 students for Placement & Internship 20 minute consultations. Students have sought help with finding internship and placement opportunities as well as getting feedback on CVs, application forms, assessment and interview technique. We were also part of the team running the “Pop up CV checks” helping to check 477 CVs this term. That’s a lot of CVs! In addition we have been visiting various departments over lunchtimes supporting a total of 112 students with all manner of placement and internship queries.   Services for students

We have run a ‘getting internships in…’ lecture series which so far has covered Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology, Charities and Media. Look out for more lectures next term including Environment, Government & Politics & Science Communication.

Coming soon….

Careers fairNext term keep an eye out for the launch of Charity Insights 2013, a bursary of £245 a week for a four week internship in a charity of your choice. We will also hold an internship fair on 21st February, 5pm in the Queens Tower Rooms. This is a great opportunity if you haven’t yet secured an internship for summer 2013. One of the Imperial student bloggers secured a summer internship in 2012 with Skimlinks, who attended last year. If you had a great internship last year why not nominate your organisation for one of the National Council for Work Experience Awards.
