Last week saw a number of free events taking place across South Kensington campus for Healthy Living Week 2013.
With New year’s resolutions still fresh in people’s minds at the start of term Sport Imperial in partnership with Taste Imperial, BodyWorks Sports Massage, Mac nutrition and local the NHS were on hand to encourage and support Imperial staff and students in their quests for a healthier 2013.
Healthy food options were on offer across campus all week and staff and students that bought 3 smoothies in the week earned themselves a free studio class in ethos!
The week started with Motive Monday and the Energia bike challenge. The challenge was to ride 1K on a WATT bike as fast as possible. With prizes for the fastest 3 men and women a lot of people were stepping up to post their times. The first round of body MOT’s also took place which involved basic body measurements like, height weight and blood pressure being taken. There was also a free aerobics class in the Ethos Sports Hall.
Tuck-in Tuesday was all about nutrition and saw a free two hour seminar delivered by Martin MacDonald of Mac nutrition. Martin talked about a balanced diet and gave advice and views on different types of foods and how we view them.
Wednesday was wellbeing themed. Our friends from the local NHS were set up in the Queens Tower Rooms offering advice on everything from workplace comfort to giving up smoking. There were free sports massages available in Ethos all afternoon courtesy of our therapists Micheal and Maria which were utilised very well by staff and students!
Try-it Thursday got lots of people taking part in free physical activities. Kondi super class was packed with participants and for those with more of a sporty nature Angela lead a range of turn-up and play after work sports, badminton proving most popular!
The week concluded with Fitness Friday and the finale of the Energia bike challenge.
Congratulations to Adrianna Harezlak and Samuel Hewgill who were the fastest male and female respectively. Adrinna completing her 1K in 1:36 and Samuel completing his 1K in 1:08.
