The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has appointed Professor Robin Grimes as its next chief scientific adviser.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has appointed Professor Robin Grimes, former Director of the Centre for Nuclear Engineering at the College, as its next chief scientific adviser.

Professor Grimes replaces Professor David Clary, who has held the post since it was established in 2009. He will be working part time at the department alongside his academic work, beginning this month.

Professor Grimes was, until his appointment with the FCO, was the director of the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre for Nuclear Engineering and the Imperial College Centre for Nuclear Engineering. He was also previously a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, which advised the government on the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
