Daily Telegraph - 25.1.13
British scientists are at the forefront of breakthroughs such as keeping chocolate on Hobnobs from melting and designing a Harry Potter-style invisibility cloak, the science minister has declared. David Willetts cited chocolate that does not melt in hot weather and work on light-bending "invisibility" technology as examples of how Britain leads the world in inventiveness.
He also hailed Sir John Pendry, an Imperial College London Professor, who is working on an "invisibility cloak" that bends light around objects to hide them. Mr Willetts announced the allocation of £600million of science funding from the Autumn Statement. He said £190million would be spent on "big data" projects such as computer systems, £25million on space technology and £35million will go towards creating centres of excellence in robot technologies.
