Imperial hope to enter the Top 20 in the BUCS table

It has been another great season in the BUCS for both Imperial and Imperial Medicals. Imperial are currently sitting at 21st in the BUCS table.

It has been another great season in the BUCS for both Imperial and Imperial Medicals however the poor weather has had quite an impact on the outside sports who went through several weeks of called off matches due to snow and water logging making the end of the season slightly congested!  Imperial College are currently sitting at 21^st in the BUCS table but there are only 136 points difference between 17^th and 21^st so with the final remaining BUCS competitions of the season coming up hopefully we can climb back up into the Top 20. 

This season has seen the inclusion of American Football into the programme and the Imperial Immortals have had a great start to their BUCS story by finishing 5^th in 1A only narrowly missing out on the playoffs.  The Fencing Club have had another great year with the Women’s 1^st securing Top of Premier South again and went on to defend their National Champions crown for the 3^rd year running  at BUCS ‘Big Wednesday’ at Leeds Metropolitan University overcoming the strength of Cambridge.  The Men’s 1^st team finished 2^nd in Premier South and came close runners up in the Championship final losing out to Cambridge in the final for the second year. 

It has been a very successful season for Imperial College Football Club who finished the season in BUCS with 2 promotions and a close 2^nd place finish.  The Men’s 1^st team won South Eastern 3B with 7 Wins, 1 Draw and 2 Defeats despite all the cold wet weather they were consistent in putting a side out and putting in the best performances possible and this has also been reflected in their Last 16 finish in the Conference Cup, their 2^nd place finish in their LUSL League and being the first ever Champions in the LUSL Cup.  The Men’s 2^nd came a very close 2^nd in both their BUCS and LUSL leagues this season and the Men’s 3^rd won the South Eastern 7C BUCS league convincingly and like the 1^st team just missed out on the top spot in LUSL.

The season still isn’t over for Imperial Lacrosse Women’s 1^st who after winning the South Eastern 1A league are through to the Premier play offs in May versus Cardiff so good luck to the girls!  The Women’s 2^nd team had an excellent cup run coming away with a BUCS Conference Cup Silver Medal losing out in the final to a strong Portsmouth side and the Men’s team put in a great performance in the Trophy narrowly missing out in a place at the ‘Big Wednesday’ final after being beaten by the girls next rivals Cardiff.

After being relegated to 2A last season the Women’s Volleyball team just missed out on promotion back to Tier 1 for next season however did come away as Conference Cup Champions.  Men’s 1^st won 1A for yet another year, securing another unbeaten season.

Imperial Medicals have finished the season in 94^th a great improvement on last year and the success of their Women’s Badminton team has been a significant contributing factor securing promotion to Tier 1 next season and also won the Conference Cup Final overcoming Reading 1^st 6-2.  The Men’s Football 1^st team were also league champions in BUCS but also topped their weekend LUSL league pipping Imperial 2^nd to the title.  The Women’s Hockey 1^st team were victorious in BUCS South Eastern 3B and have earned promotion to Tier 2 where they will be meeting Imperial 1^st next season.  Netball Women’s 1^st had another brilliant season coming 2^nd in their BUCS and LUSL Leagues as well as becoming LUSL Cup, BUCS Conference Cup and Varsity Champions all in one week!

Gatorade Nationals

The BUCS Gatorade Nationals were held in Sheffield and Nottingham during the weekend of 22-24^th February, 6000 students were taking part over the duration of the weekend and Imperial College took a large contingent covering many of the sports.  We came away with 1 Gold, 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals.  The Gold came in the Men’s Fencing with Maiyuran Ratneswaran taking on fellow team mate Camille Van Hoffelen in the Final of the Men’s Sabre, with Maiyuran being the victor for another successive year.  Imperial also earned a Bronze on the fencing piste in the Women’s Epee courtesy  of Caitlin Jones.  The second Silver medal was secured in the Judo arena with Jusso Terava missing out on the Gold medal in the Men’s U90Kg to Max Denning from Bath.  The Final medal was a Bronze in the Ten Pin Bowling, Imperial Women’s team put in a strong performance to finish in the top 3.
