Exclusive behind-the-scenes tours at Imperial Festival

Imperial Festival has secured back-stage passes for people eager to learn more about the fantastic research labs at the South Kensington campus.

For the first time, Imperial College London is opening the doors to some of its world-leading research laboratories to members of the public as part of the Imperial Festival, which takes place over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Festival-goers can find out how projects in the world-famous Hamlyn Centre have revolutionised medical procedures such as robotic surgery, which they can also try out first-hand. Limited spaces are also available for families to take turns in Imperial’s flight simulator and find out about the complex science behind some of the world’s biggest machines.

Over 200 world-leading scientists, business brains and enthusiastic engineers will be showcasing their research and interactive exhibits in South Kensington during this special two day extravaganza.

The free event at Imperial College London welcomes members of the public through the College’s doors to explore first-hand the exciting work being undertaken at one of the world’s top ten universities on Friday 3 May and Saturday 4 May.

Demonstrations range from a pop-up hands-on surgical operating theatre to testing the strength of materials. The Festival programme also includes talks about the surface of Mars and psychedelic drugs as well as performances from musicians, dance groups and stand-up scientists and comedians.

Last year over 7000 people attended the inaugural Imperial Festival, and the 2013 event promises to be even bigger and better. The research zone marquee, series of talks from Imperial’s top professors and lecturers, interactive performance activities and more make this an event not to be missed.

Members of the public can drop in at any time during the Festival.
