Impact, Outreach, Media

Richard Selley gave an interview on UK shale gas for BBC Radio 4's News at One on 12th May. His research on the impact of geology & climate change on English wine was cited in the Guardian on 7th May. He also gave an interview on the impact of geology & climate change on English wine for BBC Radio Cambridge on 26th May, following a lecture & practical workshop on this topic at the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge.

David Legg's article naming a new species after Johnny Depp received a lot of press including: the Imperial website, The Sun, msn news,
the front page of The Irish Times, OK! Magazine, The Wiltshire Times (David's local paper, with his picture), The Daily Express, and The Mail online.

Research Activity

Mark Sutton has an academic visitor, Catalina Perales Raya, who will be here for six months studying Cephalopod evolution.

Julie Prytulak will be a visiting researcher at Australia National University (Canberra) from June 1st to August 21st as part of an Australian Research Council grant she Co-I’s with Professor Hugh O’Neill. The grant (Experimental investigation of the fractionation of non-traditional stable isotopes by planetary process) merges the fields of isotope geochemistry and experimental petrology. As part of her Australian tour, she will also give a keynote talk (Non-traditional stable isotope investigation of subduction zones) in July at the biannual meeting of the Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrology section of the Geological Society of Australia.

James Hammond was invited to speak at the Royal Society on Science Diplomacy in North Korea.

Adrian Muxworthy led a 3rd year undergraduate field trip to Morocco. See below for some photos of the trip:
