AWARD FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION 2013
CITATION
Paul Kelly is a hero to many Computing students. Every year his SOLE comments include statements such as ‘Paul Kelly is a stellar example of a lecturer. He is extremely engaged with the material and loves answering.” and “This is probably the best lecturer Imperial has.” Paul teaches two really tough courses: Advanced Computer Architectures and Compilers. ACA is about how the latest computers are designed and the implications of those design decisions on key metrics such as performance and power usage. Compilers is a compulsory second year course, with a large lab to implement a programming language based on Alice in Wonderland. In addition to his courses, Paul devised our required Research Seminar Course for MRes and PhD students to learn to read research papers critically, runs our yearly Games and Media event which attracts the stars of the Games Development world to Imperial, and is our UROP champion.
