Imperial ARCS 2013 - Appreciation, Recognition and Celebration of Sport
On Thursday 20 June, Sport Imperial held the fourth annual Imperial ARCS event.
On Thursday 20 June, Sport Imperial held the fourth annual Imperial ARCS (Appreciate, Recognise and Celebrate sport) event. The event brought together over 100 guests including students, staff, coaches, officials, sponsors and partner organisations.
We were lucky enough to have Scott Moorhouse, Great Britain Paralympic Javelin athlete, part of the GB team competing and going for Gold in Rio 2016. Scott entertained our guests with the interesting story of how he became a professional athlete and his experience of competing in the London 2012. Scott gave a great speech with some positive messages and he was fantastic in offering photo opportunities with students during the interval.
After Scott’s speech, we also had the opportunity to hear stories of competing in Olympic Games from one of our own students - Adam Scholefield. Adam and Melanie Wilson were both selected by the Great Britain to represent our nation in London 2012 Olympics. Adam was the Vice Captain of the Water Polo team and Melanie formed part of the Rowing squad. Adam and Melanie were both awarded the Olympic Honours Award presented by Scott. Melanie wasn't able to attend the award presentation because she was preparing for the World Rowing Cup Eton Dorney this weekend - we wish her the best of luck!
Guests were treated to food and drinks, the most energetic GRIT demonstration from Les Mills and were also shown a clip of the new Sport imperial video. The video captures a day in the life of sport at Imperial College London.
Awards were presented in the following categories to the winners:
- Coach of the Year - Glenn Spiers (Judo) - Sponsored by Serpentine Running Club
- Sports Media Award - STOIC – Sponsored by Molten
- Ethos Award - Precious Enoch – Sponsored by Matrix
