Imperial's events programme gets off to an explosive start this week with an inaugural lecture on the link between volcanic eruptions and clean water.
Listen to Professor Matt Jackson talk about his research ahead of his inaugural lecture or read about the first Fringe of the academic year as we travel to Imperial West to find out who we really are.
Whether you’re looking to get hands-on with experiments, listen to a Nobel Prize winner or find out the most recent advances in science, our autumn programme probably has something for you. Come and meet our new professors at one of nine inaugural lectures, or explore the unexpected side of science at the autumn Fringes. Take the opportunity to hear some of the biggest names in science at our special lectures and then network and meet Imperial researchers at the post-talk reception and demonstrations. Whatever event you choose to attend, you can be assured of a warm welcome.
Professor James Stirling, Provost of Imperial, explains why he has put as many events into his calendar as possible: “The public research events programme offers the perfect opportunity to find out what’s going on at Imperial and to celebrate our new professors. As a new member of College, I am looking forward to using the events as a good opportunity to meet colleagues across our disciplines. I’m delighted Imperial is able to open its doors to College and public audiences through such a vibrant selection of events.”
The next three months offer opportunities to discover how the ends of chromosomes could be linked to ageing, to make sense of the increasing amount of data we generate and to work out if we could trust a robot babysitter. And of course to get hands-on with genome sequencing, heart body painting and zombie invasion management at the Fringe and Science Uncovered events.
Over 20,000 people visited the College last year to listen to a lecture, take part in a debate or get hands-on at the Festival and Fringe.
The full list of Imperial events and information about your visit can be found on the events pages. To register for your place at an event please email events@imperial.ac.uk.
If you can't make it on the night, you can always catch up later on Imperial's YouTube channel, or keep up with our research by following us on Twitter @ImperialSpark.
