Changes to library services - what's new and how it affects you

It's all change at the Library - look out for longer book loans, automatic renewals, your weekly account statement, and more.

Over the summer the Library has made a number of improvements to services.

For returning students and staff this means:

Your borrowing allowance has increased

You can borrow up to 40 items from all libraries, including up to four 24 hour loans.

Items are issued to undergraduates and taught postgraduates for 1 week.

Items are issued to research postgraduates and staff for 3 weeks.

Your items will be automatically renewed

Items are automatically renewed for up to 1 year.

If you had books on loan before August, automatic renewals will commence from the first time you renew them - you can do this by signing in to Library Search.

You will receive a regular library account statement

Every Monday the Library will send you an email summarizing what you have on loan.

As your items will be automatically renewed there is no need to do anything but please keep an eye out for any recalled items and those that have reached their renewal limit.

The core text collection has moved to 24 hour loan

Books in the collection are now issued for 24 hours (unless you borrow on a Friday when they will be due on the following Monday).

Library Search is your single point of access for library resources

As well as through our website, Library Search is now available on terminals at all our campus libraries – and we’re on Imperial Mobile too!

You can sign in to Library Search to manage your account

By signing in to Library Search with your College username and password you will be able to see your loans, make requests and get full access to articles - your library PIN is no longer required.

The Assistive Technology room has moved

The Central Library Assistive Technology Room has moved to the Wolfson Suite and we now have a third Group Study Room which you can book using library bookings.
