A beautiful grade II listed Victorian townhouse, 170 Queen's Gate, is a stunning venue for events from weddings to conferences.
170 Queen’s Gate, part of Imperial College London, is a grade II listed Victorian town house. Complete with it’s own house team including an on site venue manager and chef; it makes an elegant and stunning venue for many events from meeting and conferences to private dinners, parties and weddings. Its style and rare combination of features such as a private walled garden, wedding ceremony license and outstanding service make 170 a standout venue.
Located in South Kensington, London’s cultural heartland, 170 Queen’s Gate is the ultimate testament to its surroundings. Designed by Norman Shaw and completed in 1889, the house was commissioned by Frederick Anthony White, a wealthy cement manufacturer with an interest in art and architecture. The building is now home to the President & Rector of Imperial College London.
170 is just minutes from Hyde Park, the Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History, Science and V&A Museums as well as Harrods and High St Kensington. We have excellent partnerships with local hotels and would be glad to help you with booking accommodation close by.
The ground floor offers three stunning rooms - The Council Room, the Solar Room and the Drawing Room - and the garden and these can be used individually for smaller events or as a whole for conferences and weddings.
The Council Room is the largest space at 170 and an ornate ceiling with a beautiful centre-piece chandelier is the star of this space’s tasteful and restored period features. This striking room is flanked in history with original paintings showcasing the College’s history and leadership.
For private dinners or business meetings the Solar Room, at 170 Queen's Gate, is perfect, with its south facing aspect overlooking the garden, presenting a bright space all year round. The high cove ceiling and stunning French doors leading out to the Courtyard Garden set the tone for this elegant space. Its simple and classic décor make it perfect for weddings and private parties as it allows plenty of scope for personalisation.
This stylish space of the Drawing Room creates a mood of understated luxury, which is well suited to intimate conferences and business meetings alike; as a backdrop the room features an historic Russian painting.
170’s beautiful private garden, a rare gem in central London, makes an ideal spot for outdoor receptions, parties, photo-shoots and more. The garden can also be used as an extension to the Solar Room, making the combined space perfect for weddings and other private events.
