Oct 2013 - New Students Join the Group

Three visiting UG students (Mathias, Savan & Zhennan), two MSci project students (Aaron & Vivien), and a research technician (Lisa) join the group.

Mathias, Savan and Zhennan join the group as visiting UG researchers:

• Mathias Mamboury. Mathias joined the group in September 2013 for his final year research project as visiting Master’s student from EPFL (Switzerland). He received his BSc in 2012 from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and expects to complete his MSc in 2014. He's currently working on the total synthesis of Lophirone H via an oxonium-Prins cyclisation.
• Savan Chandaria. Savan is a 3rd year student on an exchange from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, USA who joined the group in October 2013. For his 3rd year BSc research project he is investigating the stereoselective rearrangement of alkoxy groups in hydroxyphenylacetic acid methyl esters via alpha-lactone intermediates.
• Zhennan Liu. Zhennan is a final year undergraduate chemistry student from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. She joined the group in Aug 2013 as an exchange student. She is currently working on the development of a new dynamic kinetic resolution procedure for the synthesis of catalysts for the catalytic asymmetric sulfonylation of amines

Aaron and Vivien join the group as Imperial College final year MSci UG research project students:

• Aaron Trowbridge. Aaron joined the group in October 2013 as a 4th year MSci Masters student at Imperial. He is currently working on catalytic asymmetric sulfonylation methodology for amines as his final MSci research project.
• Vivien Tang. Vivien joined the group in October 2013 after spending her 4th year doing an industrial placement at Firmenich (Geneva, Switzerland). For her final year MSci project she is currently working on a novel phase-tagged synthesis of 6-[18F]-L-DOPA.

...and Lisa joined the group as a research technician:

• Lisa Barbaro. Lisa joined the group in October 2013 after completing a BSc (Hons.) degree in Medicinal Chemistry at Monash University, Australia. She is currently working towards the development of a blood-filter device for the removal of the damaging products of haemolysis, in collaboration with Dr Greg Quinlan (Imperial College, NHLI) and Dr Nathan Davies (UCL, Hepatology).
