Congratulations to Dr Clare Bakewell and  Vladimir Turek for the award of their EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowships which they will commence on 1st November 2013 and January 2014 respectively.

The EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowships scheme which is awarded for one year, is intended to help universities attract and retain the very best newly qualified PhDs that received EPSRC studentship funding and help them to launch a career in research.  These highly prized fellowships were awarded to Clare and Vladimir after a considerable competitive process.

Clare’s proposed Doctoral Prize research will cover catalyst design for the synthesis of naturally derived polymers. On receiving the award Clare said: “I really enjoyed working in the field of green materials chemistry during my PhD and am looking forward to expanding my research in the area. This will include investigating new catalysts as well as working with new types of monomers”

Vladimir’s research will be on developing techniques to improve the separation and purification of biological samples (such as DNA and proteins) from a range of different media. He added “ The EPSRC doctoral prize fellowship is a fantastic opportunity for me to develop the research of my PhD”
