Alumni from across the world regularly get in touch to let us know what they've been up to.

From receiving awards to publishing new books, it’s clear that Imperial’s alumni are taking the world by storm. Here is a selection of the achievements that we’ve heard about recently.

Awards and honours

Alan Gibbs (MSc Structural Geology 1973) was named in the Science Council's Top 100 Scientists list.

Professor Sabino Chavez-Cerda (PhD Physics 1994) became a Fellow of the Optical Society of America.

Media coverage

Professor Maggie Aderin-Pocock (BSc Physics 1990, PhD Mechanical Engineering 1993) was featured in The Guardian, discussing her career as a space scientist.

Nicholas Church (MEng Civil and Environmental Engineering 2012) has been appearing on the BBC programme 'Tough Young Teachers', a show that follows recent graduates participating in the UK’s new Teach First scheme

Dr James O’Shea (Mathematics 1968, PhD 1971), appeared in ITV’s ‘The Lying Game: The Crimes That Fooled Britain’ (episode no longer available on ITV IPlayer).

An app created by four Imperial alumni that allows parents separated by thousands of miles to read their children bedtime stories was covered in The Daily Mail.

Publications

Cecil Balmond (MSc Civil and Environmental Engineering 1970) has recently published ‘Crossover’, an examination of his eminent architectural and structural engineering career. Read a review in the New Scientist here.
