RAG Week 2014 reaches for the sky

by Jon Narcross

Imperial RAG is taking a giant leap on Monday when students and staff will bravely bungee jump on the Queen's Lawn to launch the annual RAG Week.

The bungee challenge will be even greater than last year's with volunteers jumping from a new height of 200 feet (60 meters).

The event is open to all staff and students with tickets still available from the Imperial College Union website for the jump or from RAG volunteers on the day priced at £25 (with £25 minimum sponsorship required). Those wanting to keep their feet a little closer to the ground are encouraged to come down and show their support from 9am onwards.
All the money raised this year will go to RAG’s nominated causes; international development charity, Practical Action; Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Caritas Anchor House, a residential and life skills centre for homeless people in Newham.

As well as the bungee jump there will be a range of other activities for staff and students to get involved in across the week. Highlights include a pink themed RAG Week collection on Wednesday, with teams competing in a number of different challenges to collect donations for RAG. On Thursday a bubble football tournament is taking place throughout the day on the Queens Lawn before Saturday’s jailbreak, in which student teams are given 36 hours to get as far away from the College as possible without spending any money.

We’ve got some great events going on this week with plenty of opportunities for everyone to come down and get involved.

RAG Chair

RAG Chair Callum Kirk (Department of Medicine) said: “We’ve had a brilliant response for RAG Week so far and we’re hoping we can make this year our most successful yet. We’ve got some great events going on this week with plenty of opportunities for everyone to come down and get involved - even if bungee jumping isn’t your thing!”

RAG Week is the highlight of the ICU RAG activities for the year and will see the committee build on the £25,000 already raised since the beginning of term through events such as a bike auction, a Halloween-themed collection and supporting Movember across campus.
