During the Summer Term, the Careers Service is hosting a series of careers events designed for PhD students.
A number of careers workshops and presentations are being held across May and June aimed at PhD students. The events will cover different career-related areas, with specific reference to PhDs, including a look at job search and case study interviews, as well as a panel discussion from a range of employers in industry.
A schedule of the various events is as follows:
"Interviews - Communicating with Impact" with Schlumberger
Wednesday 27 May, 14.00 – 17.00
To present yourself effectively and understand the key objectives for an Interview.
This interactive workshop aims to give you the insider view on what a large technology company like Schlumberger is looking for in its candidates. We will practise some key interview skills and provide you with some personal feedback.

Developing your Research Career forum

Interested in a career in research after completing your PhD?
Organised by the Careers Service, this event, will give you the chance to find out more from speakers providing different insights into working in research within Higher Education and in industry. Imperial College academic staff and industry professionals will talk about their own personal career development and the challenges and rewards of research in a number of different contexts.
Industry speakers will include representatives from GSK, Google and Barclays
The event is aimed at PhD students from all year groups and subjects. The evening will start with a formal panel of speakers with an opportunity for questions and then for informal networking during refreshments.

"Consultancy in Action – a Real Business Case" with Deallus
Wednesday 3 June, 14:00 - 17:00
The consultancy in action workshop is a two part event designed to bring the world of strategy consulting to life. Part 1 will provide participants with a strong understanding of the function of strategic consulting, the building blocks of the consulting process and the key competencies required to be a successful consultant. In Part 2, the participants will be split into teams and will attempt to sell and solve a challenging and exciting consulting conundrum, to get a go at implementing the learnings from part 1 and to feel the buzz of the strategic decision making process.
Develop a strong grasp of the consulting industry, process and associated competency requirements in order that they can focus their own professional development in the run up to entering the industry.
PhD Careers Panel - 5 employer presentations and a networking event
WEDNESDAY 10 June, 14.00 – 17.00
The Careers Panel will provide a great opportunity to get an overview of a variety of roles open to PhDs in a diverse range of sectors outside of academia.
Come and listen to a panel of senior managers and professionals from 5 leading companies talk about their own personal career choices and development after a PhD.
The workshop will begin with short presentations, followed by a Networking session where you will also be able to speak to all the representatives in an informal, small group situation through “Questions & Answers” sessions.
