The Careers Boot Camp on 24 June will deliver four practical skills workshop to help you prepare for a typical graduate recruitment process.
- Are you planning on applying for jobs, placements or further study after your exams?
- Have you already lined up an internship this summer, where it’s likely that you’ll be interviewed and assessed again for a graduate position?
- Or, would you simply like to get all of your job hunting preparation done now so that you can hit the ground running when applications open in October?
Whatever stage you are at, the Careers Boot Camp on Tuesday 24 June will deliver four practical skills workshops which will help you plan, prepare and practice for a typical graduate recruitment or admissions process.
Information on the four workshops can be found below. To sign up for a workshop, you will need to pay a £5 deposit to the Careers Service, Level 5 Sherfield Building. If you are based away from the South Kensington Campus, please email careers@imperial.ac.uk for alternative arrangements.
Students welcome to attend all four workshops, but you encouraged to attend only those that meet your current career needs.

1) Effective Applications: CVs, Cover Letters and Application forms
10.00 - 11.15, SEMINAR AND LEARNING CENTRE (SALC) 10
Learn how to produce targeted CVs and cover letters, as well as understand how to answer typical application form questions, enabling you to market your skills, knowledge and experience to persuade an employer that you’re the best candidate for the job!
2) Preparing for Assessment Centres: Team Working & Group Exercises
11.30 - 13.00, SALC 10
Learn the appropriate behaviours and skills required to demonstrate your team working skills in typical group activities at an assessment centre. You’ll also have the opportunity to practice and get feedback on your performance in a short simulated assessment centre group exercise.
3) Preparing for Assessment Centres: Interview Skills & Mock Interview Practice
14.00 - 15.30, SALC 10
Gain an insight into what employers expect from candidates in an interview and learn how to demonstrate your transferrable skills, motivations and industry knowledge successfully. The session will cover how to present yourself effectively, the types of commonly asked questions and the opportunity to practice during a group mock interview exercise and receive feedback on your performance. This is a VERY practical session and you must be prepared to be interviewed in front of other students. Depending on the size of the group you may get the opportunity to act as an interviewer as well.
4) Preparing Assessment Centres: Presentation Skills and Presenting with Impact
15.45 - 17.00, SALC 10
Most assessment centres include a presentation exercise and this session will demonstrate how to prepare, structure and produce a professional and engaging presentation. As the workshop will be interactive, you will have the opportunity to practice your presenting skills and deliver a short presentation in a short simulated assessment centre exercise.
