Dr Simon Buckle, Policy Director at the Grantham Institute, has been appointed as a member of the new NERC Strategic Programme Advisory Group.
The group has been set up to help NERC (the Natural Environmental Research Council) prioritise strategic research opportunities. They will act as an interface between NERC and its communities to ensure that NERC’s strategic investments are ‘appropriate, timely, support excellent research, and tackle environmental challenges faced by business and society’.
Members of the group have been chosen for their expertise in environmental science and related areas, and their commitment to solving real-world problems through environmental science.
Dr Buckle’s appointment strengthens further the Grantham Institute and Imperial’s links with NERC. In October of this year, the NERC funded Doctoral Training Programme at Imperial, Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet, will accept its first intake of 25 PhD students. NERC is providing over £6m funding for the DTP, which will support 75 studentships over five years.
A full list of all other group members can be found on the NERC website.
