Congratulations to ESE Class of 2014!

by Marion Ferrat

The class of 2014 MSci geoscience have just taken their final exams and students sit this exam in fancy dress.

In what has now become and annual tradition for ESE, the class of 2014 have just taken their final exams in fancy dress. The train had to remove his costume to sit his exam, but it didn't leave the room and was safe to put on afterwards. The mountaineer got a little hot, and removed his down jacket for the three hour session. Most other students, which included a bear, a rabbit, a cowgirl, several pirates, an elephant, a mouse and an angel, a are expected to get their degrees from the Department of Earth Science and Engineering. Passers by responded by joining in the fun on the steps of the RSM.

This motley crew of animals, fictional characters and inanimate objects will soon be taking the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their degree and applying it in the real world.  Even though they have yet to officially graduate, many of them have secured PhDs in universities throughout the world. Others have offers of professional employment, and others places on Masters courses. Last year 90% of our students had full time professional employment at graduation and were on their way to successful careers as geologists, geophysicists, environmental consultants, teachers and even commodity analysts. The global demand for high quality earth scientists and engineers means our students also work around the world, from Australia to Canada. We continue to help them thrive in their careers long after they leave us by connecting them with alumni and alerting them to opportunities.

Despite their appearance the class of 2014 will go on to great things, and are a credit to the Royal School of Mines and the Department of Earth Science and Engineering.
