Researchers at Imperial College London from ethnic minority backgrounds have recorded their life stories to celebrate diversity in science.

The scientists committed their memories to film as part of an oral history project ‘Inspiring Scientists: Celebrating Diversity in British Science’. PhD student Jassel Majevadia and Dr Mark Richards, both from the Department of Physics, and Professor Sanjeev Gupta from the Department of Earth Science and Engineering, were amongst ten scientists from a range of different scientific backgrounds, in industry as well as academia, who took part.

The interviews are being screened at the Royal Society’s ‘Diversity Day’ on 17 June, which promotes increased participation of minority groups who are underrepresented in science.  

The oral history project was commissioned by the Royal Society and was carried out by the National Life Stories at the British Library.
