A winning team
EESoc, our department's student society, celebrate at the Imperial College Union Awards 2014.
Hack-a-thons, a black tie Christmas dinner for 200 people, a revue show, an engineering careers fair, industrial talks, and a trip to the world's largest international computer expo. This is just one year of activities in the life of our department's student society - EESoc, who have been named Club, Society or Project of the Year at the Imperial College Union Awards 2014.
The Union Awards celebrate those who make an impact on the social life of the College. EESoc has always been a lively and active student society, and this year especially, the Department have really noticed the impact that EESoc has made. The group has been very active in all areas, with a programme of events that's also included bowling, ice skating, barbeques and football; and they've been particularly keen and successful in persuading staff to participate in the big social events such as the Christmas dinner.
In addition to winning Club of the Year, our department’s students also received the following honours:
Community Connections Volunteer of the Year: Michael Chung
Colours for contributions to student life: Ollie Dean, Ethan Haley, and Yucheng Wang
Outstanding service award: Richard Bennett, Michael Chung, Hazem El-Turk and Peter Griffin
Fellowship: Thomas Lim - The Fellowship is awarded to those who have served the Union and enhanced the student experience in an exceptional manner during their time at Imperial. It is unusual for a 3rd year student to receive this award, but Thomas's contributions to the Union during the last two years include serving as EESoc President, a member of the Union Council, helping define the strategy of the Imperial Create Lab, and writing the algorithm that matches freshers with returning students for the 'Mums and Dads' scheme. Thomas receives life membership of the Union, and an engraved tankard that is displayed in the Union Bar.
EESoc say thank you to everyone who has supported them this year, and we offer our congratulations to our department's brilliant students.
