On Thursday 19 June, Sport Imperial held the fifth annual Imperial ARCS (Appreciation, Recognition and Celebration of Sport) event in the Queen’s Tower Rooms. The event brought together over 100 guests including students, staff, coaches, officials, sponsors and partner organisations.
We were lucky enough to have three inspirational speakers for the evening:
- Sally Gunnell – an Olympian turned television presenter and motivational speaker
- Vince Macaulay – Head Coach and Chief Executive of London Lions
- Luke Lancaster – founder of the Young Pioneers charity
Sally entertained our guests with the interesting story of how she became a professional athlete and her experience of winning the Olympic Gold Medal at Barcelona in 1992. After Sally’s speech, we also had the opportunity to hear stories of how Vince became the Head Coach of the London’s only professional basketball club – London Lions, and how they secured the London 2012 Olympic Venue – The Copper Box. Luke Lancaster shared his experience of founding the Young Pioneers charity at the age of 12!
Awards were presented in the following categories to the winners:
- Coach of the Year – Tom Burwell(ICSMRFC) - Sponsored by Serpentine Running Club
- Sports Media Award – Varsity Live Production Team – Sponsored by Felix
- Ethos Award – Shannon Jewell – Sponsored by Fit for Sport
