Professor Andrew Amis and Professor Mike Lowe have been elected Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
The Royal Academy of Engineering recognised the outstanding and continuing contributions to engineering of Professor Andrew Amis and Professor Michael Lowe at its AGM this week electing them to Fellows of the Academy.
Andrew Amis is Professor of Orthopaedic Biomechanics and Director of Research for the Department of Mechinical Engineering. His Research focuses on implant design and soft tissue mechanics for artificial joints and has led to much work on the stability and kinematics of total and partial knee prostheses, attempting to understand how both implant design and surgical variables affect the behaviour of the replaced joint.
Michael Lowe is Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Deputy Head of Department. His research is in Non Destructive Testing (NDT), with particular interests in structure-guided ultrasound, wave theory, and analytical and numerical modelling. His teaching interests are in mechanics, mathematics, vibration, and Finite Element modelling.
