Renewable energy can help UK continue to prosper says new EFL Director

by Colin Smith

The UK can continue to prosper in terms of its energy resources by exploiting wind and marine power, says the new Director of the Energy Futures Lab.

Professor Tim Green, who is the Director of Imperial’s Energy Futures (EFL) Lab as well as Deputy Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, says the UK has in the past been incredibly lucky, having had abundant coal reserves to power the industrial revolution. This good fortune continued when oil and gas was discovered in the 1970s in the North Sea.  However, in order to continue this energy prosperity, the UK needs to further exploit its abundant wind and marine energy supplies, which would make it more secure and sustainable.

In the audio interview below, Professor Green also talks about the importance of facilitating global research partnerships, fostering collaborations in transport research at the College and his passion for steam trains.

Professor Green will give his introductory lecture as EFL Director on 28 October 2014. Find out more and register your attendance.
