New Alumni Mentoring Scheme launched

by Amy Townsend

The Careers Service is pleased to offer a new alumni mentoring scheme available to students from this academic year.

Undergraduates (from the second year to finalists) and PhD students can apply for the opportunity to be mentored by a professional alumnus working in your chosen field of interest, or a related profession.

We have sourced Mentors who are Imperial alumni and are willing to volunteer their time to provide support to students. The scheme is intended to help you make the transition from student to the next stage in your career.

Key benefits include:

  • Professional insight into your chosen industry or career
  • Increased knowledge of what working in a certain sector involves and the typical networking and recruitment processes
  • Greater self-awareness of your transferrable skills and those you need to develop
  • Ideas and strategies for developing these skills
  • Options and opportunities for gaining experience in your chosen sector
  • Awareness of new opportunities and directions
  • Improved self-confidence and increased self-assurance in your own abilities

Please note that participation on the Scheme is not work experience, or intended to lead to an offer of employment with the Mentor’s employer.

For further information on the Alumni Mentoring Scheme and for an application form please look at the mentoring website.

The deadline for applying is Friday 7th November. Successful applicants will be sent further details about the Scheme and invited to the Alumni Mentoring Scheme Introduction event on Wednesday 3 December to meet their Mentor and receive a brief training session.

If you have any questions, or require advice on completing the application form, you can email us at mentoring@imperial.ac.uk, or contact the Careers Service reception desk on +44 (0)20 7594 8024 and ask to speak to a member of the mentoring team.
