Welcome Week: a look at the week ahead

With Imperial's Welcome Week now in full flow, we take a look at some of the highlights for the week ahead.

Monday

For undergraduates, today is the day for the College’s Welcome Talks, a chance to meet people from your course and hear a little bit about what you can expect from your time at the College from Imperial’s Provost.

Later this evening Imperial College Union will be hosting its first Live Comedy night of the term at 19.00 in Metric and an Open Mic Night for Postgraduate students at 19.30 in h-bar.

Tuesday

Imperial College Union Freshers’ Fair will be taking place across our South Kensington Campus, with over 300 clubs, societies and projects to discover and over 350 stalls.

Freshers FairFollowing the Freshers’ Fair, ICU will be hosting its Freshers’ Fair Afterparty in Beit Quad from 16.00-23.00.

The annual Black History Month Lecture is taking place at 16.30 with Tunji Akintokun, Director of global technology company Cisco talking about his experiences from his career as a chartered engineer as well as his role as the former chair of Cisco's EMEAR BAME network.

The Imperial Cinema will also be holding its first screening of the year in the Union Concert Hall – a double bill with How to Train Your Dragon 2 at 18.30 and X-Men: Days of Future Past at 20.45.

Wednesday

BasketballIf sports are more you thing then Sports Trials will be taking place all day across our campuses and sports grounds. There is the opportunity to get involved in everything from snooker and pool to football or rugby. It’s a chance to try something new or get stuck into your favourite sport at Imperial.

Thursday

On Thursday the Not in Halls South Kensington Treasure Hunt gets underway at 12.00 in Beit Quad – a chance for students not living in Imperial Halls to discover the area and meet other students.

There’s also live music in Metric including a performance from Imperial’s very own IC Big Band at 19.00.

For postgraduates the Graduate Student Union’s Pub Quiz in h-bar at 20.00 provides a chance to warm up the brain cells before term gets into full swing.

Friday

Fresher BallThe Freshers’ Ball rounds off the week at 20.00 at the Union.

Tickets are still available to buy on the Freshers’ Ball site.





If that’s not all there’s also a comprehensive Give-it-a-go programme running all week with a chance to try new things, from Tuesday’s Cheese  Lunch, to Yoga taster sessions.
