Teaching awards and charity fundraising at annual engineering barbecue

The Faculty recognised its best teachers and raised over £1000 for a local charity at its annual staff barbecue last month.

The event is held each year for staff from across the Faculty to come together and celebrate their achievements, enjoy food and drink, and mix with colleagues who they might otherwise not meet.

There was also further cause for celebration this year as the Faculty's awards for excellence in teaching were presented to a number of staff, while over £1000 was raised for Kids Company, a charity that provides support for vulnerable children and young people in London and Bristol.

The Faculty teaching awards recognise individuals who are renowed for their exceptional teaching qualities and who make a significant contribution to the overall student experience. This year the award had two winners, Dr Andrew Wynn and Dr Daniele Dini.

The Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) award was also presented at the ceremony, honouring research students who play such an integral role in teaching across the Faculty. James Threadgill won this year's overall award while each department also nominated a winning candidate.

Charity raffle

Another success for the event was the charity raffle, where the prizes at stake ranged from a 2 night stay at Queen's Gate Hotel and a 1 night stay at Hotel Xenia, to a HP Elitebook with case and lunch in the Garden Room at 58 Prince's Gate.

Also up for grabs were an eight-couse set dinner in the Benihana Japanese restaurant at the five-star Grange Hotel, as well as tickets to see the London Lions basketball team.

With such fabulous prizes the raffle was a huge success, and the Faculty would like to thank Jane Neary, Charles Gallagher, Neil Mosley, Todd Harrison, Clare Smith, Carmen-Sorina Agarafinei, Lolly Marlborough, Vince Macauley and Harry Day for their generous support. The Faculty would also like to thank the London Lions who donated an additional 30 tickets to the Copper Box at the Olympic Park for the children at Kids Company.
