Dr Roberto Trotta launches new book: 'The Edge of the Sky'

Dr Roberto Trotta held a book launch event for his first book for the general public, "The Edge of the Sky" (Basic Books) at Imperial College London on Oct 16th 2014. Roberto is a Senior Lecturer in Astrophysics at Imperial, and an STFC Public Engagement fellow. A passionate science communicator, "The Edge of the Sky" is his latest effort in sharing the excitement of cosmology with the general public.

Named "one of the most anticipated books of Fall 2014" by Publishers Weekly, "The Edge of the Sky" is a tale of the great discoveries and outstanding mysteries in modern cosmology, from the big bang to alien worlds, from dark matter to dark energy, from the origins of the universe to its destiny — with a twist. The books is written using only the 1,000 most common words in the English language. The result is a poetic, entrancing and surprising story that talks about difficult concepts in cosmology in beautifully simple terms that everybody can understand.

In the inspiring setting of the Garden Room at 58 Prince's Gate, the book launch was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of colleagues, friends, artists, filmmakers and media personalities. Although "The Edge of the Sky" is not a children's book specifically, Roberto hopes that "it will reach a wide audience of readers - I like to think of it as a book for children of all ages".
