Charities & Not For Profit Week 2014

If you're thinking about working in the charities sector, there's a whole host of events during our Charities & Not For Profit Week for you!

The Charities & Not for Profit Week features events happening 24 – 28 November, including the Not for Profit Forum (Thursday 28  November, 17.00 – 19.30) – which is highly recommended for students interested in developing a career in this sector.

Charity & Not For Profit Careers Fair

MONDAY 24 NOVEMBER, 12.00 –  14.00

FOYER, SIR ALEXANDER FLEMING BUILDING

The fair is specifically aimed at students and graduates of Imperial College interested in careers within the not for profit sector, with 14 different organisations exhibiting. All year groups of students are encouraged to attend the event from first years to PhDs.

Careers in Education with ARK Teacher Training (Lunchtime Talk)

Tuesday 25 November, 13.00 – 13.50

Jacynth is a former teacher. In her current role as a tutor, she works with a cluster of schools and teacher trainees to train and develop the next generation of outstanding teachers. Jacynth will give you a first-hand account of her experience in the education sector and ARK Schools, will talk about careers and progression within various areas of education and finally talk about the candidate recruitment and assessment.

Skype Chats with the Song Saa Foundation

Wednesday 26 November, 12.30 – 14.00
Careers Service, Level 5 Sherfield Building, South Kensington campus

One-to-one Skype chats with the Song Saa Foundation, which initiates and promotes sustainable development projects that improve the wellbeing of communities and environments across the Koh Rong Archipelago, Cambodia. From 1 January 2015, the Foundation is launching a Tropical Marine Conservation Programme (TMCP), where volunteers will have the opportunity to join a coral reef surveying project.

Charities & Not for Profit Forum

Thursday 27 November, 18.30 – 21.00

This is a ‘must’ for all students interested in finding out about careers in areas such as environmental campaigning, international development and other charities and NGOs, from a panel of speakers with experience in this sector.

After listening to the talks, there will be an opportunity for questions and then the chance to talk informally and network with the speakers afterwards.

Facebook Chat with Chance UK

Chance UK aims to improve the lives of primary school children with behavioural difficulties who are at risk of developing anti-social or criminal behaviour by offering them tailored, one-to-one mentoring with a carefully screened, trained and supervised adult.

Skype Chat with The Transformation Trust

Sign up for a one-to-one Skype session with The Transformation Trust, an education charity dedicated to opening the doors of opportunity to young people across the UK. They work with some of the most challenged schools, offering their pupils opportunities and experiences that help them to develop new skills and build their confidence - whether that is for the workplace or for further education. Volunteering opportunities include helping to run the charity – and gain fantastic third sector experience – or to go into school and speak directly to students.

How to Get an Internship in the Charity & Voluntary Sector - Seminar
