Consistently Outstanding
Every six years the quality of research in UK higher education institutions is assessed. On the 18th December 2014 the Research Excellence Framework (REF) containing these assessments was published. We are very proud that our department and college numbers were outstanding.
There are many ways to combine the numbers to produce league tables and our favourite way has to be the "Research Intensity Tables" where we came 1st out of the 89 British Computer Science departments. To see how all the Computer Science and Informatics departments scored in the "Research Intensity Tables" see:

For the REF tables based on "Grade Point Averages" (GPA) we were very pleased to come third. We are the only department in the UK that has been rated consistently amongst the top three since the introduction of research assessments. We are particularly delighted that we have been rated best in terms of research environment amongst all Computer Science Departments in the UK. This reaffirms that the Department of Computing has a top research environment that is conducive to producing research of world-leading quality, in terms of its vitality and sustainability.
