5th UK-Korea Workshop on Plastic Electronics
National Physical Laboratory (NPL) hosted the 5th UK-Korea Workshop in Plastic Electronics
The 5th UK-Korea Workshop on Plastic Electronics (http://www.ukplasticelectronics.com/5th-uk-korea-workshop-on-plastic-electronics/), co-organised by Drs Ji-Seon Kim (Physics), Fernando Castro (NPL) and Professor Duk Young Jeon (KAIST), was held at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington on 26th February.
This one day workshop attracted a large participation with 90 registered attendees, including 34 from Imperial College. Companies registered included Merck Chemicals, IMEC, SemiMetrics, Sumitomo, LG Display, Samsung Electronics, Horiba Scientific, Lambda Photometrics, Technolox, CPI, Intrinsiq Materials, Lucite, DZP International and Cambridge Display Technology (CDT).
The speakers at the meeting were Professors Donal Bradley (Physics), Jong Min Kim (Oxford), James Durrant (Chemistry), Kilwon Cho (POSTECH), Kwanghee Lee (GIST), Duk Young Jeon (KAIST), Changhee Lee (SNU), Yong-Young Noh (Dongguk) and Drs Chul-Hong Kim (LG Display), Bongsoo Kim (KIST), Richard Wilson (CDT), James Blakesley (NPL) and Stephane Berny (Merck Chemicals).
Research topics that were covered in the presentations included organic solar cell efficiency and stability, electrode materials to replace indium tin oxide, injection and transport materials for transistors and circuits, quantum dot light emission materials, materials design, synthesis and characterisation, processing and microstructure control and novel format displays with touch control, flexibility and reconfigurability.
The meeting was sponsored by the Korean National Research Foundation (NRF), the UK FCO Global Partnership Fund and NPL. Our Korean visitors from KAIST, SNU, GIST, KIST, POSTECH, Dongguk University and LG Display were also taken on a visit on 25th February (accompanied by Dr Ji-Seon Kim) to CDT (hosted by Dr Richard Wilson) and FlexEnable (hosted by Drs Guillaume Fichet and Jan Jongman), two companies with significant UK activities in Plastic Electronics.
The Korean NRF has recently funded two postdoctoral fellows to spend a year at Imperial College with Professors Donal Bradley (Dr Sungho Nam from Kyungpook National University) and Thomas Anthopoulos (Dr Dongyoon Khim from Dongguk University).
