He has been working with Dr Richard Grieve and colleagues from the University of Western Ontario.

Impact and Media

John-Paul Latham had had article “Waves and concrete” published in Research Media describing how latest advances in computational modeling are being used to better understand the impact of wave action on coastal defences and harbour breakwaters.

Fieldwork

Seismic survey to measure engineering properties of rock near a BGS seismic field station

Adam Booth and Philippa Mason conducted a seismic survey near Folkestone, with Civil Engineering PhD students Sarah Tallett-Williams and Christine Bischoff, with the aim of measuring engineering properties of rock near a BGS seismic station. The earth was made to move using seismic equipment (pictured) hired from University of Leeds through a departmental Collaboration Award, and Ian Bastow arranged for a loan of broadband seismometers (pictured, inset) from SEIS-UK. The work contributes to a submission to the 6th ICEGE conference, to be held in New Zealand later this year.

PhD vivas

Marina Lomberg and Vlad Duboviks successfully passed their PhD Vivas. Both Marina and Vlad's research was in the field of Solid Oxid Fuel Cells & Electrolysers. Marina will be continuing at Imperial in postdoc position.

New Staff and Depatures

The Basins Research Group say ‘so long and thanks!’ to Olly Duffy, who has left the group to take-up a full time researcher position in the Applied Geodynamics Laboratory, Bureau of Economic Geology, University of Texas at Austin.<
