Student-led conference exploring the future impact of Chemistry
The inaugural Science Foresight 2035 held in the Department of Chemistry on 24th March explored in some detail where some of the cutting-edge chemistry research currently being undertaken both at Imperial and elsewhere will be in 5, 10 and even 20 years’ time.
The one day event included a series of both internal and external speakers as well as a poster session and networking opportunities. An award was presented by Head of Department Professor Alan Armstrong to James McArdle for Best Science Foresight Talk for his presentation on The Future of Nanotechnology. And also by Charlotte Casebourne, Co-Founder of Public Health & Longevity to Thomas Arrow for Best Foresight Poster Award for his poster: The Greener Future of Metal Extraction: Putting Out the Fire.
The conference was organised predominantly by a group of highly motivated PhD students with the guidance of Research Associate Dr Ali Salehi-Reyhani. It is envisaged that this will become an annual event within the Department as it proved to be an excellent opportunity for everyone to come together and get a feel for chemistry outside of their specific area of research.
