Box of Broadcasts - a new learning and teaching resource from the Library

by Janet Corcoran

Library Services are pleased to launch access to Box of Broadcasts (BoB).

BoB is the largest shared online off-air television and radio recording service for education and research in the world.

It allows all students, researchers and staff at Imperial to record television and radio programmes from 60+ Freeview channels over a 30 day buffer period. You can include your video in classroom presentations and online modules, or share it with other Imperial members – just click on a link to play!

Recorded programmes are kept indefinitely and added to a growing media archive of over 1 million programmes, with all content shared by users across all subscribing institutions. This cross-disciplinary media archive is relevant to most faculties at Imperial.

Features of BoB include the ability to:

  • view over 1 million television and radio programmes including additional off-air recordings from the BBC going back to 2007 (800,000+ programmes)
  • access more than 10 foreign language channels, including French, German and Italian
  • record from a 30 day buffer period
  • display and search transcripts and thumbnails - allowing you to jump to the relevant part of a recording
  • watch on your iPhone or iPad
  • easily create clips, playlists and clip compilations
  • use a one-click citation to add references to programmes in your work
  • enjoy a new-look website and improved navigation
