by Elle Clegg

The 25th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, ECCMID 2015, took place on 25th-28th April in Copenhagen, Denmark.

There was an excellent turnout of over 10,000 people from 112 countries and over 200 sessions ranging from keynote lectures, symposia and oral sessions, educational workshops and meet-the-expert sessions.

The Health Protection Research Unit in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance contributed to ECCMID with a number of talks and poster presentations relating to their work.

Professor Alison Holmes delivered a keynote lecture on ‘Behavioural science applications in antimicrobial stewardship and infection control’. Esmita Charani gave an oral session on effects of a smartphone application on antimicrobial prescribing trends and Gabriel Birgand gave another oral session on costs surrounding controlling the spread of resistant microorganisms. There were also numerous poster sessions from other HPRU members. This was an excellent event for HPRU to showcase their work.

Don’t miss the next ECCMID, which is taking place in Istanbul from 9th-12th April 2016.
