CPE members attend the 11th International Conference on Optical Probes of Conjugated Polymers and Organic Nanostructures Conference in Hong Kong.
CPE members Professor Donal Bradley, Dr Ji-Seon Kim and Mr Yiren Xia attended the Optical Probes 2015 conference held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong from June 14th to 19th. Professor Bradley gave the opening plenary lecture, entitled “Molecular Metamaterials: Using Polymer Conformation to Define Photonic Nanostructures”. Dr Kim was an invited speaker and delivered a talk entitled “Developing Advanced Structural Probes to Identify the Dominant Optical Transitions in Donor-Acceptor Copolymers and Their Impact on Photostability”. Yiren Xia presented a poster entitled “Theoretical Examination of the Variable Stripe Length Method for Gain Extraction in Polymer Thin Films”. The meeting was chaired by Professors Kam Sing Wong and Ching Tang from HKUST and attracted 98 oral and poster presentations from around the world. The next Optical Probes conference will be held in 2017 in Canada, most likely Québec City, and will be chaired by Professors Carlos Silva and Stéphane Kéna-Cohen, both well known to the CPE community from their time at Imperial College.
Professor Bradley was also invited to give a HKUST Institute for Advanced Study Distinguished Lecture on Friday 19th June. His talk entitled “Plastic Electronics - The Science and Application of Soluble Semiconductors” addressed the development of plastic electronics following the discovery of conjugated polymer electroluminescence in 1989 and its potential for display, lighting and photonic applications. Professor Ching Tang, a pioneer of small molecule vacuum-deposited organic light emitting diodes at Kodak and a previous CPE Annual Lecture speaker introduced Professor Bradley and proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the lecture.
