Physics staff members join Race for Life

by Caroline Jackson

Well done to all who took part.

Four of our members of staff joined the Energia team in ‘Racing to beat cancer’ on Sunday 19th July. Our women in pink, Mery, Loli, Juraci and Amira were joined by Julia and Karen, also familiar faces in Physics. They had a brilliant time, the weather was fine and balmy and there were runners from 6 to 91 years doing the 5K circuit around the park with as much exuberance as possible in the July sunshine. The Energia team laid on a healthy and delicious buffet in Princes gardens and everyone including family and friends had a well-deserved picnic.

Juraci had this to say “The atmosphere was incredible. I really enjoyed being together with the ladies in pink from the department.  I’m sure this one is my first of many - I’ll go in the future” Mery added “It was a wonderful experience; I’ll do it again next year”

“Great team work!” enthused Amira. Loli was moved by the experience, “I loved taking part for such a great cause. It was great to see everyone from toddlers to the very elderly taking part and remembering their loved ones that fought this battle. The messages brought tears to your eyes. Ethos did a fantastic job organising the College being represented on the event”.

Julia had the last word “It is the first 10km race I have run, it took me 1 hour 4 minutes and 17 seconds - I am delighted with this.”  She raced in honour of a close family member who suffered from breast cancer.
