Three successful student teams have been selected to take part in IP Wise Up 2015.
Funded by the Intellectual Property Office StudentshIP Enterprise Awards, the IP Wise Up initiative has been launched by Imperial for the first time this year to encourage the practical application of Intellectual Property (IP) skills by undergraduate students.
It’s very encouraging to see some of our most promising young innovators and entrepreneurs showing interest in IP Wise Up.

Director of Enterprise Strategy
The highly competitive programme has given teams of undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Natural Sciences the unique opportunity to receive training from the Imperial College Business School and Imperial Innovations on Intellectual Property Strategy and to develop their own creative enterprising ventures and prototypes over the summer.
On Friday 19 June the judges selected the following three teams to take part in the competition:
- CustoMem - Henrik Hagemann, Despoina Paschou, Gabriella Santosa
- GyroGlove- Chao Lyu, Joon Faii Ong
- Stratosphere - Shiqi Wang, Siyuan Wang, Tianyou Wang, Zhe Lu
The successful teams have completed their 2 week course - delivered by the Imperial College Business School and guest speakers - and are now working in College facilities over eight weeks to develop their projects and prototypes; with each student receiving a bursary of £2,400 to cover their living costs.
At the end of the programme the participants will become IP ambassadors and will present their enterprises at an event open to staff, students and external guests on Tuesday 20th October 2015.
Bruno Cotta, Director of Enterprise Strategy and chair of the initiative’s organising committee said: “It’s very encouraging to see some of our most promising young innovators and entrepreneurs showing interest in IP Wise Up. It’s an excellent opportunity for them to boost skills and experience as well as help us improve awareness for a wider population of enterprising students at Imperial”.
