Student Success at the TRADA Airspeed National Student Design Competition

by Lucy Chivers

Congratulations go to four of our third year MEng students who recently took part in the TRADA Airspeed National Student Design Competition.

Chloe Detanger, Edrea Pan, Darren Ramdoo and Jack Wilkinson were presented with the award for Best British Timber Project in the TRADA Airspeed National Student Design Competition, at an award ceremony at the Yorkshire Air Museum.

The competition tasked students with designing two landmark timber structures; a large exhibition display space and an iconic entrance, for the Yorkshire Air Museum, celebrating the pioneers of aviation. The team were congratulated on the adventure and rigour of their design, as well as extensive research into structural components capable of being manufactured from British Timber.

Congratulations as well to the team of Orrin Lancaster, Eric Leung, Sen Wang and Paul Zhu, who were also finalists in the competition. Entries to the TRADA competition are made as part of the Group Design Projects carried out by all third year students in the Department. In the two years that the TRADA competition has run, three out of four Imperial teams have been finalists in the competition.
