Imperial welcomes new students

by Martin Sayers, Jon Narcross

Imperial welcomes its new undergraduate students marking the beginning of this year's Welcome Week.

New Imperial students from across the globe made their way to London this weekend as they arrived on campus for the start of their first term at the College.

Over 2500 undergraduates are beginning their Imperial journeys this week, settling in to new accommodation, new subjects and beginning new friendships.

Freshers' Fair

A packed week lies ahead. On Tuesday, Imperial College Union’s Freshers’ Fair gives students the chance to discover more than 350 clubs, societies and projects that they could get involved with over the coming year.

Sport Imperial’s Sports Trials will be taking place on Wednesday - a chance for students to try something new or get stuck into their favourite sport here at the College.

On Thursday, the United Nations’ gender equality movement, #HeForShe, will be bringing its campaign bus to the College. Staff and students are invited to visit the bus, meet #HeForShe campaigners, and to pledge their support during the visit. Imperial College Union is hosting a panel discussion as part of the visit, open to all students (register to attend).

The annual Freshers' Ball will bring Welcome Week to a close in style on Friday evening, headlined by Made in Chelsea’s Alex Mytton alongside a host of DJs.

Welcome to Woodward

This year also sees the opening of Woodward Buildings, Imperial’s new hall of residence in North Acton.

Woodward will be a home away from home for its 693 residents with state of the art facilities including an onsite gym, bar, and common room, as well as study facilities and music practice rooms.
