The outstanding postdoctoral research being carried out at the Chem Eng Department was showcased at our annual Postdoc Symposium on 23 September.

Every year, the postdoc symposium features some of the most interesting research taking place at the Department and this year was no different. With attendees including eminent academics from the Department of Chemical Engineering as well as members of industry, the quality of the presentations was of the highest calibre. 

The day started off with an engaging and informative poster session in the design rooms featuring promising research topics from a number of our postdocs.

Presentation schedule and Lecture Abstracts

Dr Pinky Dua, Senior Director and Head of Clinical Pharmacology at Pfizer and a former PhD student and postdoc at the Department, gave the opening keynote lecture titled "Modelling and simulation in drug discovery and development".

Dr Dua was followed by series of lectures from selected postdocs. The final presentation of the day was the recipient of the Sir William Wakeham Award, an annual award bestowed to early career researchers in recognition of significant contributions to their field. The award was presented by Dame Julia Higgins to this year's winner James Kimber. He received a £2000 prize and an invitation to present his work titled "ATR-FTIR Spectroscopic imaging of dynamic processes".

We would like to thank all the speakers and presenters for their contributions and to the organising committe comprised of academics Cleo Kontoravdi and George Jackson; postdoc representatives Yoli Sanchez-Vicente, Maria Solomon and Peter Yatsyshin; the support staff Zoe Townsend and Michael Panagopulos for their efforts in making this symposium an unqualified success.
